About me

When I was a child, I loved drawing. At school, I was good at art and dreamed of becoming an artist or illustrator. But I was also academic, and the teachers advised me to do "proper" subjects, told me that "artists end up starving in garrets" and said "art was a nice hobby but nothing more."
"But you have such good grades! Why would you throw all that away to do art?"  So I studied languages and became a teacher. I got to travel, living in places like Peru, Israel, Germany, Spain and Poland, and I really did love that. But I hated every moment spent stranded at the front of a classroom, and resented the long evenings lost to marking and lesson planning. Until one day I just couldn't do it any more, and I rediscovered drawing and painting, and re-learned to see beauty in a world that I thought had turned grey forever.
So now, here I am - middle-aged and finally listening to myself, doing what I want to do. Art certainly is a "nice" hobby, but just maybe it can be more than that. One thing I am sure of is that I definitely will not end up starving in a garret. I don't have one!
